University of Twente, in collaboration with Wrocław University of Science and Technology, have released a new, open access paper on the “Assessment of Global and Detailed Chemical Kinetics in Supercritical Combustion for Hydrogen Gas Turbines”. The study explore the use of a reduced global reaction mechanism versus the detailed FFCM-1 model for hydrogen combustion with supercritical CO₂ and argon as diluents. Through CFD simulations in both simplified and realistic combustor geometries, analysis suggests:
- Relative errors under 4% compared to detailed chemistry
- Accurate capture of key behaviors like buoyancy-driven flame asymmetry
- Validation of global models as efficient tools for simulating supercritical combustion
